Followers Call for Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are demanding that a person who breached a fence and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account contains clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
