From that Caracas stronghold to a New York courtroom: Maduro's capture in images as well as maps.

The US assert the military operation to capture the South American nation's leader required months of careful preparation, but the moment the US President gave the command to commence, the mission dubbed "Absolute Resolve" concluded after about 150 minutes.

The surprise early-morning assault on Saturday represented a never-before-seen event within modern politics and resulted in the arrest for Venezuela's president and his spouse, Cilia Flores de Maduro.

Seized by soldiers belonging to a top-tier US army unit while they tried to flee into a fortified safe room, the two are currently in custody at a holding facility within New York City and face narco-terrorism indictments.

The Dawn Raid on Fuerte Tiuna

With daybreak that morning, the scale of the armed intervention in the capital, Venezuela's capital, became apparent.

Photographs from Fuerte Tiuna, a huge army installation where senior leadership live, show destroyed buildings and burned, smoking vehicles.

It was at this facility where Maduro and his wife were captured, a senior political figure Nahum Fernández stated.
Fuerte Tiuna, the country's largest military complex, was struck by US strikes in the early hours of that Saturday.

The mission started amid reports of blasts at approximately 02:00 local time (06:00 GMT).

The US cut power to the city, the President has since said, describing it as "dark and deadly".

The aim was to disable the nation's air defense systems and open up the way for American assault helicopters to get to Fuerte Tiuna.

Our evaluation was that we had maintained completely the advantage of surprise," a senior military officer commented.

Targeted sites encompassed the base, a maritime facility and an airport. Pictures show Fuerte Tiuna engulfed in flames, with huge flames seen for miles.

The country declared a national emergency in the wake of the American attacks.

Venezuelans have described the way American choppers flew low over Caracas, heading for Fuerte Tiuna.

A number of the aircraft were shot at, however managed to continue flying, military leaders stated.

There was significant weapons fire," the President noted.

A Lightning-Fast Ground Assault

After landing, forces from the US Army's Delta Force, acted with speed.

They gained access to the compound at 02:01 Caracas time, and the presidential couple "gave up" without a struggle, according to accounts.

However, more details were provided. The Maduros attempted to flee into a secure location, described as a heavily fortified bunker.

"The safe place is all steel, and he failed to get to the door as our personnel were too quick.

It featured a very thick entryway, a very heavy door," the President informed the media. "He made it to the door. He could not to close it."

However, even assuming they had managed to get into the safe room, troops could have breached it in approximately "47 seconds".

From the Capital to New York City

Now in US custody, the couple were transported approximately 3,400 kilometers, to Manhattan.

They were taken by air out of Caracas via chopper, and transferred to the USS Iwo Jima, a naval vessel stationed off the coast. The operation was completed "over the water" by 04:29.

It was on the ship where one of the defining pictures from the entire mission was captured - the president in handcuffs, with hearing protection and darkened eyewear resembling dark sunglasses.

From the USS Iwo Jima, he was first flown to the US Navy base in Cuba.

The Maduros then traveled on a government plane to a military airfield in New York state, and then via helicopter to Manhattan.

Confronting The Legal System in American Soil

That same day, footage was released showing the detainee inside the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) headquarters in New York.

He and Cilia Flores are presently being held in a detention centre within the city.

They have been charged including conspiracy to commit drug-related terrorism and cocaine trafficking, possession of machine guns and explosives, and plots to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the US.

They are set to encounter the complete force of the US legal system in the United States in American courts," a senior legal official proclaimed.
