Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
