Just as Storm Claudia hit the northern region the previous evening, Manchester City overwhelmed the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a convincing three goal triumph for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that clearly signaled their title credentials as they reinforced their standing at the league summit.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This outcome marked consecutive Women's Super League defeats for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since last May, leaving them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions severely dented.

Manchester United's capacity to balance league and continental soccer with a limited squad has been a widely debated issue since they secured entry to the UCL. Considering the calendar, it always appeared this was the matchday that would fully examine this capability. Sadly for the opposition, they appeared fatigued from start to finish, the memorable win against PSG clearly having taken a toll.

Lineup Adjustments

The United manager had attempted to rotate the squad with a a few adjustments. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Galton all brought energy, although the exclusion of the in-form Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.

City, in comparison, have fewer workload issues. Jeglertz made one adjustment from their most recent win over Everton with Lauren Hemp making her return to the lineup since healing from a physical setback.

Overpowering Start
