Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
