The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
