Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
