UEFA Launches Disciplinary Proceedings Concerning Pedro Neto After Altercation Involving Paris St-Germain Youth Assistant.
European football's governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following an incident where he knocked over a young stadium attendant in the Champions League defeat by PSG.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, shoved the boy in stoppage time of the last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused him falling from a chair.
This provoked a heated exchange between both sets of players.
Officials stated the case has been opened against Neto for "unsporting behaviour" as per UEFA's code.
"Disciplinary officials will make a ruling on this case at a later date," European football's governing body announced.
Neto apologised for the incident and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" when he sought to get back the ball.
"I'm not like this. Emotions were running high and I sincerely apologise. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I feel terrible about it - I owe him an apology," Neto told broadcasters.
"My French is not very good, so teammate Vitinha intervened and said to him that this isn't my normal behaviour.
"Finally he accepted the apology and I presented him with my jersey apologising many times. He understood what had happened and was satisfied with how it was resolved."
Chelsea host Paris St-Germain next Tuesday in the second leg, following Newcastle's visit at their home ground this weekend in domestic competition.
